A FEW days ago I received a newsletter from a supplement purveyor with a specialty in colloidal silver. This is not of coin, but a solution (deionized water or aloe vera juice) mixed with a tiny amount of silver (parts per million).
To those seeped in the stuff, colloidal silver is heralded as a cure-all for many health problems. No surprise, then, that the problem tackled in this newsletter edition was a whopper.
I glanced at the newsletter contents. The lead story:
“Panic Not Needed: Ebola Protection and Healing Protocol”.
Intrigued, I clicked on the link and read the author’s protocol for preparing one’s immune system to withstand the ravages of a virus that health officials worldwide fear may become a pandemic, one that has up to this moment quickly claimed the lives of nearly 4,000 people.
Three conflicting thoughts immediately collided in my mind:
- Everyone should know about this! But…
- Is it accurate? And..
- Should I share it with my readers?
You would think that if there was a straight-forward ebloa protection formula, we’d be told about it, other than the common admonitions to avoid anybody who may be infected, wash your hands, etc.
You’d think if we could prepare our capacity to either resist infection or survive it, we’d be told.
Thus, I looked at this “Ebola Protection and Healing Protocol” squinty-like, the way a Sheriff examines a card shark who might be dealing from beneath the deck.
In the end, two things made me decide to share this with you.
First is that the author of the following ebola protocol, Dr. Ken O’Neal, is both a medical doctor and naturopathic doctor with 35 years of emergency room experience, thereby giving his opinion credibility.
Second is that a Google search on “ebola immune system strengthening” delivered several credible articles that support the contention that we might be able to withstand infection and/or death should ebola be contracted if our immune systems are strong enough.
I guess there’s a third, more personal, reason I decided to share this “ebola protection” protocol with you.
I don’t get sick.
Or maybe it’s more accurate to say that I haven’t gotten sick from flu, virus, bacteria, whatever, for many years. I think this is largely due to how I’ve strengthened my immune system, much in the same way that Dr. O’Neal advises.
That said, let’s jump in and find out how we might resist ebola infection.

- Dr. O’Neal’s eight ingredient recipe for preventing ebola infection and/or surviving it;
- The basic on what nutritional foods should be consumed, and those to be avoided; and
- Seven additional immune strengthening tips from me, informed by my own experience and the related literature
Let’s begin with a disclaimer:
I am not a medical doctor and don’t pretend to be one on the Internet. I do not know if Dr. O’Neal’s ebola protection protocol is a bunch of hogwash or not. Do not fool yourself into believing that because you don’t get sick that you’re invincible and therefore could slow dance with an ebola infected person all night long and wake up the next morning ready to run a marathon.
That said, let’s go…
Dr. Ken O’Neal’s Ebola Protection and Healing Protocol
As mentioned, I read about this in a newsletter. The protocol, and more information about Dr. O’Neal, can be read in its entirely here. What I’ll do is summarize it, along with my inevitable commentary.
The underlying hypothesis of this ebola protocol is that a strong immune system can withstand ebola infection and/or help a person survive infection. Dr. O’Neal contends that:
Protecting yourself against the Ebola virus (and other viruses and bacterial infections) is really more a matter of having a strong immune system than anything else. Individuals most in danger are those with compromised and under-functioning immunities. The primary culprit is a bad diet and malnutrition resulting in a deficiency of essential vitamins and minerals
Here’s the Recipe:
1. Therapeutic Liver Flush
A liver flush helps cleanse the liver and gall bladder of toxins thus enabling them to better deal with any additional “load” put upon them by ebola infection. Note: this would not be done after contracting ebola.
2. Colloidal Silver
O’Neil writes that collodial silver has been shown to stop over 600 different types of bacteria and viruses.
Replenish the colon flora/bacteria in order to maintain proper digestion of foods and other nutrients.
4. Selenium and Iodine
Dr. Jonathan Wright, MD, teaches that selenium increases the body’s production of the selenium co-factored enzyme glutathione peroxidase, and at high doses is effective against against Hemorrhagic Fevers. Iodine is essential for the body’s utilization of selenium in converting thyroid hormone T4 to T3.
5. Vitamin C
A potent antioxidant necessary for about 300 metabolic functions, Vitamin C strengthens the body against infections, especially viruses, colds and other respiratory infections.
6. Vitamin D3
Exposing your skin (shirtless, bathing suit, shorts) to 30 minutes of daily sunshine will give you about 2,000 IUs of Vitamin D3, assuming there’s enough cholesterol in your skin from consuming enough omega 3 fats from grass fed animals, or cod liver oil.
7. IP6/Inositol-Inositol hexaphosphate (IP6)
Dr. A.M. Shamsuddin, MD has conducted several studies that indicate IP6, a member of the Vitamin B6 family, boosts Natural Killer Cells (“NKC”) — body’s first line of attack on microbes (bacteria and viruses) and cancer cells — by 200 to 400%. Medical lab tests routinely show that those with serious infections and/or cancer have NKC activity below 20% of normal.
8. Digestive and Systemic Enzymes
These two together are potent. Digestive and systemic enzymes can:
- Break down a viruses’ cell wall;
- Reduce inflammation in tissues and arteries; and
- Cleanse the blood and reduce arterial plaque.
Systemic enzymes need to be taken at least one-half hour before and after meals for maximum effectiveness. Digestive enzymes should be taken with meals. Neither should be taken with drugs.

Ebola Protection With Nutritional Improvements
This is another angle on what you can do improve your immune system. Nutritional and dietary changes can make a big difference. In the next section, I’ll present some immune-enhancing supplements that may be unfamiliar to you, but this list of nutritional dietary changes is commonplace:
- No GMO foods
- No highly refined flours and sugars
- No junk food
- Minimize grains
- Minimize pasta and rice
- Substitute pasta and rice with lentils and beans (preferably sprouted a bit before cooked)
- Minimize diary (kefer and yogurt excluded)
- Minimize high glycemic carbs
- Drink lots of pure water (not from plastic bottles)
- Eat grass fed, no-hormone, no anti-biotic meat
- Eat at least three handfuls of veggies each day
- Get your fruit from fruit, not fruit drink (sugar)
As Shane Griffen reports in his article, Ebola outbreak reminds us to protect our immune system, among the many natural immune-boosting foods which we should regularly include in our diets are:
- Garlic, one of the healthiest options out there, as it has incredible antimicrobial properties.
- Mushrooms, such as shiitake, reishi, and maitake, contain beta-glucans that enhance immune activity against infections.
- Kefer, yogurt and kimchi contain live-cultured microorganisms that colonize in our bodies to out-compete the “bad bugs” and revitalize our immune systems.
- Camu camu, a superfruit out of the Amazon Rainforest, has three times more Vitamin C than an orange. Naturally occurring Vitamin C is one of the most powerful immune-boosting vitamins in the world.

More Immune-enhancing Supplements
Our proposition is that a strong immune system has a good chance of preventing or letting us survive ebola infection. Makes sense, then, to explore some kick-ass immune-enhancing supplements.
Most of these I’ve got a good deal of positive experience with, or are recommended by experts I know and trust.
Turkey Tail Mushroom
I first heard of Turkey Tail mushroom from one the most preeminent mycologist in America, Paul Stamets. At a TEDmd conference, he was telling the story of how it saved his eighty-something mother from dying of breast cancer. He turned, looked down and smiled at someone, and up leaped his mother, who strode onto the stage, hale and smiling.
Mr. Stamets then penned an article for the Huffington Post about how Turkey Tail Mushrooms defeats cancer and other degenerative diseases because it increases those killer cells (T-cells) above mentioned.
The primary ingredient in ProBoost is Thymic Protein A. Thymic protein is the key to the human immune system, and has been scientifically demonstrated to stimulate immune activity. ProBoost stimulates T-4 helper white cells to locate abnormalities and to dispatch T-8 killer cells to destroy them. ProBoost contains over 500 amino acids, comprising the entire protein molecule.
Olive Leaf Extract
Within Oleuropein is a chemical agent called elenolic acid, which assists the body’s immune defense. Research studies have found that elenolic acid helps the body to balance levels of friendly bacteria and support the immune system.
Milk Thistle Complex
Milk thistle is a natural liver detoxifier that contains a powerful compound called silymarin, which has been found to defend the liver from many industrial toxins such as carbon tetrachloride, and more common agents like alcohol.
Pro Health’s Milk Thistle Complex includes Choline and Inositol to promote fat and cholesterol metabolism, and Vitamin C and E for improved antioxidant protection.
Sterols work by increasing the output and responsiveness of TH-1 (“T-helper”) cells, ‘smart’ cells which ‘decide’ what to attack and destroy. It also boosts another type of cell critical to the immune response–Natural Killer (“NK”) cells. NK cells work by identifying, attaching to and injecting deadly granules into harmful invaders.
Liver Cleansing with Jon Barron’s Detox Program
Actually, Mr. Barron’s program is far more extensive than a liver detox. He gives you the whole bannana; meaning, the best way to do a detox cleanse is to methodically address all the organs of elimination, and Jon’s “Full Body Detox Program” does just that:
But if you want a simplier (though most likely less effective) liver strengthener, try SAMe.
As I wrote in The Miracle Supplement for Depression, Arthritis and Liver Health, SAMe is a “triple threat”, in that it — as the title exclaimes — helps to reduce depression and inflammation, and strengthens the liver to boot! Rather than let the ebola scare scare you silly, let it spur you to improve the quality of your nutrition and supplementation with the aim of strengthening your immune system and “organs of elimination”, such as the kidney, liver and the intestines.
Focus on these four things:
- Eliminate junk and processed foods
- Eat a lot of vegetables of every color
- Take supplements with good reputations for strengthening the immune system
- Detoxify your liver so it can become stronger
We’ll conclude with another quote by Dr. Ken O’Neil:
Keep in mind is that those most susceptible to any viral outbreak or life-threatening illness are those who have a compromised immune system. That may well include the majority of the population, but if you will take the time to do the small nutritional things and make the dietary changes necessary to boost your immune systems you can protect yourself and your family to a greater degree than can any drug or vaccination.
Therefore, remove the GMO and highly refined flours and sugars, GMO grains, and other junk food and drinks from your diet and start eating healthier. Most of us know what this entails so we won’t go into detail on diet. If you get serious about a healthier diet and if necessary use this protocol or some other comparable immune boosting protocol, then you will at the very least minimize the potential for life-threatening illnesses.
Take responsibility for the health of yourself and your family and stop being lead from one public-health/political crisis to another. The initiative is in your hands. Do what it takes to get your family reasonably safe and healthy and don’t allow yourself to be panicked into the herd mentality, otherwise, you may run off the cliff with the rest of the herd!
