WE ALL do it, but most of us rather not.  It’s not the ever-increasing number incessantly ticking that’s so unpleasant, but what it means.  Typically, when those numbers get beyond 50, our experience of physical life changes, and not for the better.

What to do?

It’s best if you get on a healthy bandwagon early in life, but it’s never too late to improve.  Even if you’re predisposed to some health issue or another, usually there are things you can do to improve the situation.

Have you heard of the Blue Zones being investigated world wide?  These are places where inhabitants lead unusually long, healthy and productive lives.

There secret?  Well, it’s not very secret — what you eat, think and do can help you live a long life.  To this I add a little help from some supplements.

Just about any supplement that helps improve health can be thought of as one that improves longevity, but some are specifically targeted to addresses the factors underlying the aging process.  These are the ones I use:

Natural Resveratrol (200mg, 60 Vcaps)

This is fast becoming a wonder supplement (see video below).  Among a long list of benefits that include helping with diabetes and cardiovascular disease, Resveratrol helps cells make protective enzymes to prevent the leakage of electrons and the production of toxic ‘free radicals’.   It’s among the most promising “anti-aging” supplement that exists.

7 Keto DHEA (25mg, 30 medium capsules)
7 Keto DHEA
This is the most prevalent hormone in the human body. 7 Keto DHEA promotes improved immune system function and anti-aging effects, as well as enhanced energy and weight control, but in a form that does not convert into testosterone or estrogen in the body. Some powerful supplements do ignite hormonal production, and even if this is done naturally, you should get a pass from your doctor before using. Just to be safe, I take a month vacation from 7 Keto every third month.

Pregnenolone (50mg, 60 medium tablets)

This is often described as the “grandmother of all steroid hormones” because it is the basis from which all steroid hormones are manufactured in our bodies. As a “hormone balancer,” it has the capacity to increase the levels of steroid hormones that are deficient in our bodies and to reduce the levels of excess circulating hormones. Some scientists believe Pregnenolone is converted into other hormones only as they are needed by our bodies.  But that’s not good enough for me — make sure your get your doctor’s approval before using Pregnenolone.

Pregnenolone is also distinctive because of the innumerable bodily activities it can influence. As a steroid hormone precursor, it is believed to be involved in every biochemical action exhibited by any steroid hormone. This means it may impact memory, mental alertness, stress responses, female reproductive cycles, the body’s natural defenses, and joint and tissue function.

Acetyl L-Carnitine (500mg, 30 capsules)

Cellular energy production itself produces free radicals that can harm cell structures, including the mitochondria, if the body’s natural antioxidant capacity is low. Acetyl l-carnitine and lipoic acid are both naturally present antioxidants in the body that have been shown to support mitochondrial function and help reduce free radical damage.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (300mg, 90 medium tablets)
Alpha Lipoic Acid
Is a potent antioxidant that promotes the body’s production of energy. It supports the conversion of carbohydrates, fat, and protein from food into fuel, stimulating production of ATP (the body’s energy source). As an antioxidant, ALA is known to help neutralize the effects of free radicals on the body by enhancing the antioxidant functions of vitamin C, Vitamin E, and glutathione.

Vitamin D3 1000 IU (1000IU, 180 Softgels)
Vitamin D3
Plays an important role in the body’s utilization of carbohydrates and fats and in the synthesis of protein for the growth, maintenance, and repair of cells and tissues. It is also crucial for the production of ATP, a molecule the body uses to store energy. What’s more, there’s a link between Vitamin D deficiency and cancer.

Do you know how many glasses of red wine I need to drink to get the same amount of resveratrol contained in one of those ProHealth Natural Resveratrol capsules?

Ha! Don’t even go there.. your liver would be shot in a week. If you want the benefits touted by the resveratrol studies, either take the supplement, or go on a life-long calorie restriction diet. (I like the first choice!)

According to me supplements are a call to the slow death.. One should always avoid it and try to take natural things so that there is no harmful effects of it..
