Pertinent cells of the immune system are shown, such as plasma, B, Memory T, Helper T, and Cytotoxic cells, as well as Macrophage.

AS I’VE remarked several times on this blog, many supplements benefit the body in several ways. In fact, rare is it that a supplement would only be helpful for one thing, say the heart, or joints.

Fish oil, for instance, is known to reduce the risk of heart disease AND support cognitive function AND benefit the health of the macula and retina of the eye AND improve joint function. Wow.

So, any particular supplement can favor several physical functions. If some supplement, for example, reduces stress or illness then, naturally, it benefits the immune system which has one less battle to fight.

There’s a long list of innovative supplements that can help improve your immune system in a variety of ways, such as antioxidants to boost amino acids or calm inflammation; and nutrients that address T-cells, or trigger “natural killer” cells — the immune system’s inherent defenders.

Products like ProBoost Thymic Protein A, Green Tea Mega EGCG and Transfer Factor Essentials™ are exceptional for building your immune system.  I haven’t been sick for years, but when I do feel “something” circling about, I increase my consumption of the usual stuff, such as Vitamin C and Maximum Wellness Formula, and turn to:

Olive Leaf Extract (15% Oleuropein) (60 medium veggie capsules)

Olive Leaf Extract This has a wonderful compound called oleuropein which can help the body battle viruses, bacteria, and fungi.  Like with Host Defense (below), I take this when I may need it, not on a regular basis.

Host Defense by New Chapter (60 Vcaps)

Host Defense by New Chapter This propriety and potent mushroom-based formula from the excellent company, New Chapter, works great!  When I become concerned that I may be vulnerable to catching a cold or flu, I load up on Host Defense.

    Thanks Joe! :)
alrighty then, ill be on the look-out for grapefruit seed extract and olive leaf extract and maybe not so much the Ginseng! Great!
Thanks for the heads up concerning wheat germ oil (and oils in general) - ill be more careful when it comes to oils! this particular 'Garlic Plus' is from Vitahealth (Australia) and seems to be an ok brand, but ill be sure to pay attention to the brands in the future! Thanks! :)

Greetings from very tropical (31 degrees celcius today) and very HUMID Singapore!

    Thanks again Joe! :)

    hey Joe!
alrighty, so i thought i would ask you for some supplement advice! :) i'm in Singapore right now and took a pack of multivitamins with me (just to cover the basics), here i found this cool store where I bought these 'Garlic Plus' supplements containing Garlic Oil, Lecithin and Wheat Germ Oil. (Good purchase? I thought it looked good :))
I also saw this Ginseng Ton supplement which seemed rather interesting! I saw tons of other great things but i'm on a tight budget so need to prioritise...any suggestions?

Alexandra, a rolling stone gathers no moss. Darn, girl, Singapore!

Well, the garlic is a good idea cause it will help beat up any strange bacteria and fungi that international travel might introduce. The wheat germ oil is an odd ingredient. The concern with it is that oil can go rancid very quickly if it's not stabilized with something, often a chemical which is not ideal.

Tight budget stuff also includes grapefruit seed extract (a favorite of Westerners traveling to India) and olive leaf extract. Try to find reputable manufacturers -- use the Internet -- rather than the cheapest.

Ginseng's benefits can be spotty due to quality issues. It's more for energy, not anti-bacterial etc. So, since you already have the basic multi-stuff, would prioritize with stuff to enhance safety first, like what I mention above.

    Have a great trip!
